“You wanna run away…”

It’s been awhile since I posted, probably not since classes started.  This new post is coming from my new acer mini book.  It’s a pretty sweet little device, and very convenient.  Now I’ll be able to work on my writing everywhere I go.  The keyboard is small, but I’m getting use to it.

Anyway, I’m entering my last week of classes for summer semester 1.  The 5 weeks went by pretty quick, so it’s very important to keep grades up all the time because it’s only 5 weeks and not 15 or whatever.  The semester went well, I think.  Spanish was really tough, but I made it through.  I think next semester will be the harder one.  I’m taking Spanish 201, Video Production 2, and Geography 150.  It kinda sucks that my first class starts at 7:30 am, but my day of classes ends at 12:35.  Which is good, because that gives me the day to be hopefully working a bit and then filming and editing movies for class.

Summer has been going pretty well.  I try to have some fun in there, when I’m not overwhelmed with school.  It’s going by fast and I feel that I’m missing out a bit, but at least I should graduate on time next year and then I will be finished with college in May!  Well I think that’s it for now, I got some work to do.

“Lights will guide you home…”

So it’s been a few weeks since my last entry.  I figured I would write something while I’m taking a break from my summer class homework.  Well, this semester ended up going really well grade wise.  My grade point average for this semester was a 3.0, which is way cool!  Overall, I now have a GPA of 2.877, so maybe by the time the summer is over I could have a 3.0 overall.  My lowest grade of the semester was Math, a C-, which I was very happy with since I started to struggle at the end.  I am officially done with taking math.  The rest of my grades were:  Audio Production A, Video Production B-, Spanish 101 B, and Fitness Walking A.

Then I had a week off before I started summer classes.  I spent the time at home, hanging with family and friends.  I didn’t plan on coming home for a week, but I ended up getting a Tetnis and Meningitis shot, and the Meningitis shot made me sick late Monday night and I had a fever all of Tuesday.  I was also hoping to hear back from a job, but I got nothing.  So I just hung out at home.

I started summer session 1 today.  I got to my first class, and found it a few minutes later that BSU cancelled the class, and I was never notified.  So I had to find a class to replace it, so instead of history of theater, I’m taking history of music.  After that, I have ten minutes to get to Professional Business Communications, and then ten minutes to get to Spanish 102.  I go to class from 9:15 to 3 Monday thru Friday.  It’s actually kind of nice just to have all my classes back to back.

Have a lot planned this week.  Going to the midnight showing of Terminator Salvation Thursday/Friday night/morning.  I also have to go to Kokomo Thursday to pick up my tux for Emily’s wedding.  Then coming back to Kokomo Friday after class for the wedding rehearsal.  Then Saturday is Emily’s wedding.  On Monday, I think I’m headed for the Lake to hang out with my dad’s side of the family.  Busy, busy, busy…that’s my life.  Hope I can find a job too!  That’s all for now!

Final Video Project for TCOM 332

My partner and I have finally finished our final creative edeavor for TCOM 332 Video Production 1 class.  As you’ve read in the previous post, we have had all kinds of problems with this video.  So we took what we had to work with, and did the best job we could do.  Some audio is still distorted, but we couldn’t do any more reshooting.  The video quality is downgraded a bit and we’re not sure why.  So here it is, what my partner and I have been working on for over two weeks.

“I’m better off in every other way…”

So it’s been a long couple of weeks, but I’ve been hanging in there.  I always talk about how these last few months of school are real crazy, believe me, they just get worse.  My partner and I finished filming our creative endeavor for video class last weekend.  It felt good to have that step done.  Then I got a call from him Sunday night around 11ish and he was like, “bad news man…”  I didn’t know what to expect.  He had started to digitize and go over the footage when we found that the sound was cutting in and out on our tapes.  I couldn’t believe it!  We messed around with it for a couple hours that night, and got nothing going.  So I came back home sometime after 1 that morning and slept.  Then I got up and took the tapes in and tried to re-digitize them.  Well we shot with two cameras, which means two different tapes.  We used one camera to film our main character (the producer tape) and then the second to film the other people ( so it was called our crew tape).  Well the crew tape was the worst, it kept losing time code as I was digitizing which throws everything off.  So I digitized it the best I could, it took over a half an hour to digitize 10 minutes worth of footage.  The second tape only lost time code 3 times, so it wasn’t as bad.  So now the question was, did we have enough “good” footage to piece together a film.  Well, Nathan and I sat in the lab most of the night and tried to put things together.  We were able to save a lot, and we had to trash other things.  We have to refilm a few minor scenes, but all in all we made it work, thanks to Nathan’s awesome editing skills (he calls himself the Editing Master).  Sowe’re going to re-film a few Closeup Shots (CU) today and then edit those in.  We had a lot of trouble with the lights in a few scenes, so we’re trying to fix those the best we can in editing.  I would like to have the bulk of this done before I leave for Cleveland this weekend, which we should.  This is really my second big problem with Video Production, but I guess you just have to stay focused and dot he best you can.

As I said a little bit ago, I’m headed to Cleveland this weekend.  Dad and I have tickets to a Cleveland Indians game.  I wanted to go so I could watch former Cubs, and my favorites, Kerry Wood and Mark DeRosa play.  I don’t remember who their even playing, but it should be a good game.  Hopefully the Indians are ahead at the end and Kerry Wood gets to come out and close the game.  It’s also Kerry Wood bobble head day, so I’ll get a Kerry Wood bobble head, too bad he’ll be in an Indians Jersey.  Well, I think I’ve ranted enough for now.

“Where were you, when everything started to fall apart…”

Yesterday, a good friend of mine, had some crushing news.  I don’t plan on going into any detail, it just made me want to write about something.  A lot of bad things happen in this world, and sometimes it just doesn’t make any since.  Most of us ask ourselves, “Why me?”  We can run that single question through our heads over and over and most times we can never get an answer.  We have those times when just the worse things can happen to us, and we wonder “What’s next?’

The worst part is, sometimes we feel so alone.  But looking around, we’re not alone through the tough times in our lives.   The greatest gift God gave us was family and friends.  Without all of them, I do think we would be alone.  The good thing about family, for most, they are always there.  No matter what goes on in your life, the constant love and support of your family is greatest.  Friends are so important as well.  In life, friends come and go, but sometimes you just make those connections that just stick forever…those our the best friends.  The best friends are right with you, even through the tough times.  When you lose someone so important in your life, your friends are here for you.  Whether it’s just a shoulder to cry on, a late-night talk over milkshakes, or even just being there all night just in case you need someone…best friends are always there.  Those best friends would drop anything for you, and not even look back.

We go through tough times in our lives, but family and friends are there to help us get back on our feet.  Never think you’re alone, because your not.  We ban together and work through anything, no barrier can get in our way.  So the next time you ask yourself the questions, “Why Me?” or “What’s Next?” don’t think you have to work it all out by yourself.  There are people who will be right next to you, no matter what.

“My brain is hanging upside down…”

Another week down in the semester, which seems to be going fast and slow all at the same time.  I still have a lot to do, which is never fun.  I’m so close to being done with Audio class, the final meeting is next Wednesday.  Bad news is that I have my audio final Monday and I still don’t feel ready for it.  There is so much information and sometimes I have a lot of trouble processing all that technical information.  I’m sure I’ll figure it somehow, it will just take some more time.

I have one last project left in my Video Production class.  It’s a creative endeavor, so we can do anything we want.  My partner and I are getting together on Monday to start scripting and storyboarding ideas.  This project should be fun, I’m looking forward to it.  Today I took a little break and took everyone’s music video from the class and put them all on a DVD so I have a copy.  It’s interesting to go and look how others did there videos.

I’m looking forward to going home this weekend.  Sure, I’m going to be studying for Audio, but I get to see family and stuff myself full of  food.  I’m headed home Friday after Spanish class.  I’m just planning on hanging out at home on Friday.  Then on Saturday I’m headed to the lake to see family on my dad’s side, should be some good times.  I’m looking forward to showing off  some of my projects that I have completed, to my family.  On Sunday, I’m headed for church and then having Easter with my mom’s side of the family.  I just need to remember to get studying done!

Cubs are currently 2-1.  That’s it for now!

Music Video Project

Here’s my latest project for TCOM 332.  My partners and I did the song “By My Side” by the group Loser.  Unfortunately the group is no longer together.  On the other hand, one of my group members has the rights to use the song, which is pretty sweet.

“Baseball seasons here again…”

So today is the big day, Opening Day!  I have been so excited for today, and it ended in a Cubs victory.  The Cubs won their first game of the season on the road against the Houston Astros.   They won the game 4-2.  Of course I was a little disappointedduring the off season with the release of Kerry Wood and Mark DeRosa, those two being my favorites.  It’s all good though, I can still cheer those two on in Cleveland but my true heart belongs to the Cubs.  Carlos Zambrano pitched his 5thopening day and got his first opening day win tonight.  It’s a great way to start off a new season, and I definitely look for more to come this season!  I have picked my favorites to cheer on this season, which includes:  Sean Marshall, Ted Lilly, Kevin Gregg, and Mike Fontenot.  For now, that’s it, but more stayed tune for more Cubs post during the rest of the season!

Tonight, we say goodbye…

I should ecplain the title first, I have a big event tonight, well for me anyway.  It’s ER’s series final tonight.  I have been watching that show for 15 years and it’s coming to an end tonight.  I’m excited and sad, it’s had a great run!  It starts at 8 with an hour of looking back on the show and then the final 2 hour episode.  Tonight, we say goodbye…

So I’ve been pretty busy trying to get things done.  This was actually suppose to be my last week in Audio class, and then take the final next week.  This class only meets 10 out of the 15 weeks, but he added another week int there to get a few more things in.  I will be happy when it is all over, I have been super busy in there.  Last week I worked on my Pro Tools 101 projects all week during the time we would have had class.  There were two exercises to do, so my audio partner and I knocked those out.  Then, this week, my partner and I recorded and mixed our second and final radio commercial.  It’s more of a funny commercial, pretty much something that could never air, we just had fun with it.  Next week we review for the final, which I’m glad we take early because it is going to be difficult.  The test should take about 40 minutes and then we have to wrap a mic cord, which is harder than you think.  If you don’t wrap it a certain way, you pretty much fail.  Our prof told us he saw a person get fired once for wrapping a cord the wrong way.

A week or so ago I pretty much got all my classes mapped out for my last year of college.  I’m hoping to take six classes this summer between the two summer sessions, with a total of 19 credits, and then two 15 credit hour semesters this next fall and spring.  That’s the plan, unless they drop one of my tcom classes this summer and then I’ll be taking a 18 credit hour semester next year.  I’m just hoping everything works out, I’m ready to get everything finished.

So I have lots to do this weekend!  I’m shooting and editing a music video and then hopefully working on my final project for video class.  I also need to get some studying in there, get prepared for that audio final.

“Late” Nat Sound Project

My group for TCOM 332, Video Production, have finished making our video for the Nat Sound Project.  We were not allowed to use any music, and no talking was aloud in the video.  All we used was the sound that was picked up around the actor.  I hope you enjoy the video entitled, Late.
